Why learn to dive with Cincinnati Diving Center?  CDC's Learn to Dive program meets or exceeds all national standards. With over 35 years of experience, CDC is the only store in the Tri-State that meets these high standards.

There are three steps in getting certified - the two part Learn To Dive course and the Open Water Checkout dives.

Learn to Dive Course

The Learn to Dive course consists of both classroom and confined water (pool) sessions. Tuition for the Learn to Dive program is $259.   Additional costs are the textbook and materials packet which is $65.95 and the required personal snorkeling equipment which includes: mask, snorkel, boots, strap fins and gloves appropriate to your Open Water diving location.   The cost for this equipment can vary, but the average is $250 - $300.

The classroom sessions are held at Cincinnati Diving Center. Our current schedule is 5-week sessions which meet on Sundays. The classroom portion starts at 12:30 and ends at 2:30. To participate in an upcoming Sunday program is very simple; all you need to do is pay your tuition to hold your space.

The pool sessions are conducted at Powel Crosley YMCA which is just down the street from CDC. This is where the equipment you purchased will be put to use. After class, you will go to the pool and be in the pool from 3:00 – 5:30. While you are in the pool sessions, we will provide all your SCUBA gear, however, we encourage all students to consider purchasing their own SCUBA gear.

If our 5 week schedule does not work for you, private classes are available for an additional fee.

Open Water Dives

Once you've completed your class and pool work, the third and last step is to complete your Open Water Certification dives.  This will consist of four to six dives over a minimum of two days.  You have three options here:

  • First, you can join us on one of our many trips to various dive destinations around the world. Check out our Travel page to see if one of the locations interests you. On most of our trips, you'll pay nothing extra to get certified.
  • Your second option is to join us at one of our local Open Water weekends during the summer.  We'll go to one of the local quarries that are operated just for diving. In the summer, our local quarries are a very popular option for completing the weekend of check-out dives. Some of the best diving in the Midwest can be found within a few hours drive from Cincinnati. Fees for local Open Waters are $100 tuition and the cost of rental gear which averages $90.
  • Your third choice is to get certified on your own vacation.  We'll provide you with the necessary paperwork to take to a dive center at your destination.  Fees for Open Waters can vary in other locations.

After successful completion of all three parts of the program – Classroom, Pool, and Open Water dives – you will receive a certification card from either NAUI or PADI, which will be internationally recognized.
